چکیده
The effect of vehicle noise on farmland birds living in the vicinity very busy roads was investigated. study conducted two plots crop fields located near national Nr. 12 and 19, most important trunk Poland eastern part Europe. results current are wide relevance because dominant landscape type both conservation animals, including birds, such habitats is a priority issue view strong pressure from human activities intensification agriculture. fieldwork carried out monthly April to June 2020 included counting three rows listening-observation points situated at 50, 150 250 m roads. At each observation point, all meadow seen heard during five-minute period were recorded, as maximum ambient level this time. With increasing distance roads, decreased while number individual observed species increased. Most like skylark, lapwing, whinchat, yellowhammer, pipit, pheasant, common quail, avoided In contrast, abundant yellow wagtail appeared be insensitive traffic evenly distributed over plots. their associated had negative impact about 100 m. that distance, levels above 53–60 dB led sharp falls bird densities. Bird mortality due collisions with vehicles low combined lack attractive roadside effectively deterred

How ( Not ) to React to Experimental Philosophy
In this paper, I am going to offer a reconstruction of a challenge to intuition-based armchair philosophy that has been put forward by experimental philosophers of a restrictionist stripe, which I will call the 'master argument'. I will then discuss a number of popular objections to this argument and explain why they either fail to cast doubt on its first, empirical premise or do not go deep en...
متن کاملRegionalizing land use impacts on farmland birds
The environmental impacts of land use vary regionally. Differences in geomorphology, climate, landscape structure, and biotope inventories are regarded as the main causes of this variation. We present a methodological approach for identifying regional responses in land use type to large-scale changes and the implications for the provision of habitat for farmland birds. The methodological innova...
متن کاملEffects of traffic noise on occupancy patterns of forest birds.
Noise may drive changes in the composition and abundance of animals that communicate vocally. Traffic produces low-frequency noise (<3 kHz) that can mask acoustic signals broadcast within the same frequency range. We evaluated whether birds that sing within the frequency range of traffic noise are affected by acoustic masking (i.e., increased background noise levels at the same frequency of voc...
متن کاملHow doctors should react to domestic violence.
A palpable alarm echoed throughout Hong Kong when two young children were chopped to death and another critically wounded by their father before he hanged himself on 20 January 2002. Domestic violence in the form of homicide, suicide, spouse battering, and child abuse are among the most common social and mental health problems worldwide. Such incidents are but the tip of an invisible iceberg of...
متن کاملHow physicians react to cost-effectiveness information.
Since 1998, the growth of health care spending has accelerated to levels not seen since the 1980s. This growth has renewed pressures on physicians to practice "cost-effective" care, since physicians' decisions account for the vast majority of all health care spending. But little is known about what physicians think about cost containment, and how they incorporate cost-effectiveness information ...
